On “What About Now”:

Missed connections, second chances & nostalgia are set to a soundscape in Annie Fitzgerald’s new single “What About Now”. This Pop/Americana single is layered with texture and nuance and its catchy hook sticks with you long after it’s played. The past two singles “Anam Cara” & “I’ll Wait Here” were about holding space for loved ones and about presence at their core. “What About Now” is about forward motion & the potential of new opportunities.

“I just love playing the guitar and singing this one; it’s one of those that just feels good in the body. It feels fun. My long-time collaborator Steve Bosmans played electric guitar. The past few singles, we had worked with the incredible violinist, David Gerald Sutton. David has been playing as a part of my trio since. They weren’t initially on this track, but we had to bring them in to add their magic. My engineer and producer Matt Patrick came up with such a vibey foundation with the drum programming (I can hear the car on the road sometimes) and some piano & synth bass that contributes to the sense of curiosity and agency and longing. It is always so fun to see how it all comes together.”

What About Now is the last of 3 new singles Annie is releasing this year, before settling in to write for a new project. Annie and her trio (Matt Patrick on electric guitar, David Gerald Sutton on strings) celebrate at the Aster Cafe the evening of its release, Friday, September 22nd @ 9pm.

Bio:

Singer/Songwriter Annie Fitzgerald’s music has been described as “a blend of Tori Amos’ intellectual appeal, Sarah McLachlan’s mystical charm and Edie Brickell’s baroque spirit” (Jamsphere). At the start of her career Annie was honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame as an artist to watch, while she was an integral part of the NYC Indie scene and toured nationally. After having her son, she welcomed a move back to her home state of Minnesota alongside a newfound sense of space to create. Annie is a co-founder of the Valkyrie Music Collective based in Minneapolis, which aims to create opportunities for change, balance and community in the music industry. She is a member of the #MeTooMpls Collective that released a record named 2020’s top 10 albums by the Star Tribune. The compilation was created to lift the voices of people who identify as women/femmes/trans/nobinary, to raise awareness around sexual assault and abuse, and to fund Planned Parenthood.

Annie is also a Sound Therapist and Reiki Practitioner. She facilitates Group Sound Bath Meditations around the Twin Cities area and offers 1:1 Sound Healing & Reiki Sessions. She brings sound healing, active listening & meditation to companies & organizations as Workplace Wellness, and facilitates Full Moon Magik (an in-person & online gathering celebrating the Moon and her cycles) and Under the Moon Events with her friend & colleague Dawn Marian.
