KFAI’S MINNECULTURE – GOOD VIBRATIONS: ANNIE FITZGERALD BRINGS VIBRATIONAL HEALING TO ST. MARK’S CATHEDRAL

Grateful to Alison Young and KFAI for this piece in MinneCulture! Click the soundcloud link below to listen!

“Sound is powerful tool. Throughout human history, it’s has been used to boost morale during war, to help people work more efficiently and to ward off evil spirits. The concept of using sound to heal goes back to ancient Greece.

Sound vibrations in and of themselves contain resonance that have a powerful effect on our bodies and minds. Research shows us that sound healing can slow down our brain waves and put our bodies in a very relaxed, dreamlike state. It may also be able to help with certain physical and mental health conditions.

A Sound Journey – or Sound Bath – is a guided meditation that harnesses this power for therapeutic and restorative effect. During a session, a participant lies down in a comfortable setting with closed eyes and allows the sound from a myriad of instruments like chimes, singing bowls, gongs and drums to wash over them. The relaxing resonance acts like concentric rings, building on itself and helping to release blockages, expand awareness and inspire.

Sound Practitioner and Singer/Songwriter Annie Fitzgerald leads a one-hour group Sound Journey in numerous locations throughout Minnesota including Saint Mark’s Cathedral every last Thursday. Everyone is welcome!

NEW SINGLE “WHAT ABOUT NOW”!

So excited to share this new song! I’ve been SO grateful for big support from Radio Heartland, The Current’s Song of the Day, and Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine said some really lovely things, and included it on their October Playlist of Best New Minnesota Songs! Here’s what they had to say:

“Annie Fitzgerald has a way of taking sorrow and turning it into something beautiful and hopeful. “What About Now” is a series of singles Fitzgerald has released over the last few months. In her work, she can take a simple, sweet sound and run with it, over and over; as smooth and fluid as it is bubbling and fractured. This is the last of the new music she is releasing before settling in to work on a new album.”

I’ve loved releasing new music this year. I am anxious and excited about going into some creative space to write some new songs. It’s time.

“What About Now” is about missed connections and second chances. I am thrilled with the way this one turned out, and feel so fortunate to have amazing collaborators. I hope you like it, and that maybe it even gets stuck in your head a little. 🙂

NEW SINGLE “I’LL WAIT HERE” Out Now!

It’s release day! 💗✨ “I’ll Wait Here” is out in the world!

Safe spaces and trusted people have been themes I’ve been exploring & sinking into. I wrote I’ll Wait Here in the midst of the pandemic, when uncertainty was the undercurrent of every conversation collectively, and when my family and I were going through a lot of transition. Its themes are presence and patience; sometimes there aren’t words. Sometimes we just need a container to safely move through.

This song could have been written to so many people. Sometimes I know deep down that I wrote it to my son, Will. Sometimes I also know, that I wrote it to myself.

Cheers to holding space for each other.

The Current – The Scouting Report: 10 Minnesota musicians rising to the top in February & SONG of the DAY

So grateful for all of the love that “Anam Cara” has been getting, and am honored to be on The Scouting Report. Diane Miller from the Current writes:

Oftentimes musicians become who they are because they understand the power of sound and what it can do for an individual’s livelihood. Annie Fitzgerald, a singer/songwriter, also works as a meditative practitioner in sound healing. Her latest single is “Anam Cara,” which means “soul friend” in Gaelic. It showcases her talent for leaning into pleasant frequencies. Her beautiful singing is accompanied by an arpeggiated electric guitar line with trickles of reverberated notes from various instruments layering in a bed of atmosphere. Lyrically, the song is about the sacred bond of friendship and what it means to be in the comfort of people who allow you to truly be yourself. –Diane

BIG THANKS to the Current for the SONG OF THE DAY feature.

Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine: Minnesota Playlist Feature

Grateful to Mpls. St. Paul Magazine & Youa Vang for featuring “Anam Cara” on the Minnesota Playlist! Youa writes:

In Gaelic, “Anam Cara” means soul and friend, and Annie Fitzgerald embodies positive energy in all of the work she puts out into the world. The singer recently started a meditation practice to center herself and her newest single is grounding and angelic all at once. Fitzgerald wrote the song as a reminder for those people that give her a safe space to be whole. It also was a reminder to root into those safe places where there is deep knowing & trust. As you listen, you get the sense Annie knows what she’s doing and where she’s going.

NEW SINGLE “Anam Cara” Out Now!

“Anam Cara” is out in the world! 💗

“Anam” is the Gaelic word for soul, and “Cara” for friend. It has ties to Celtic religion and spirituality and when I read about the concept during a time of big transition, I began to meditate on and see clearly the places that feel like home, and specifically the people that give me space to come home to myself. When we are truly given a space to be witnessed wholly and fully without pretense or judgment, the portals it opens up for healing are profound. This song is a reminder to me to root into those safe places where there is deep knowing & trust. It’s a chance to honor each Anam Cara I’ve encountered in this life and beyond.

So much gratitude to Matt Patrick at the Library Recording Studio for your friendship, talent, vision and general awesomeness. Steve Bosmans – I love playing music with you and am so grateful to get to create with you. You are the backbone of this track. Ian Allison thank you for your spirit and friendship and musicianship. David Gerald Sutton – the mark you made on this piece is beyond special. Thank you to Greg Rierson for putting on the finishing touches.

Shout out & Love to my Patreon community for being supportive and amazing humans. Thank you for helping me get this song out into the world.

“What Does Healing Mean to Me?” – MN Women’s Press Article

I’ll forever be discovering the “Why’s”; the pull and the yearning to dig deep into healing parts of me that need tending to. It’s been a central part of me from an early age. (Pisces rising, perhaps?:) Music, dance and theatre have been such huge avenues, and most recently discovering intentional ways to do so in community as we move out of this pandemic space.

It was a lovely exercise to write a piece for the Minnesota Women’s Press among these strong MN folk, and I’m grateful to be a part.

✨“For me, healing centers around the holding of space; space for our inner, space for each other, and space for the divine.” ✨

Cheers to holding the space. Sending love.

“Under the Moon” – New Single

LISTEN HERE

I’m so excited to share “Under the Moon” with you. It was inspired by friends who meet under the New and Full Moon’s to hold space for one another. This practice has become an important part of my life and my healing. It also reminds me that this life is magic. What a gift it is to have people to grow alongside and to witness.

Playing this song grounds me. It reminds me how important presence & connection are; to each other, to spirit, to the moon, to our rituals, to our ancestors, to how we pray and how we heal.

To all who have held space for me and with me; I’ve been so fortunate to heal with you and to learn more about myself through your hearts and eyes. I’m honored and grateful.

“I Know That Sound” Lyric Video

I hope this note finds you healthy and well. What a year it has been. The little bits of light that peek through the end of the tunnel now bring me hope. So does the promise of Spring. I hope you’ve got some hope creeping in, too.

As I deepen my own self-discovery, it has become clear how much I value being seen and heard by others, and to reciprocate that in a safe space. I think we’re all connected by the journey towards our truest selves, sharing our stories and finding room to grow, to love, and to be.

I’m glad that this song, originally written for #MeTooMpls, is out in the world taking up some space. Sending love. I miss you. The post-covid hugs will be a thing. (unless hugging isn’t your thing. i’ve gotten good at seeing faces and air hugs too).

xo,

Annie

NEW SONG, “I Know That Sound” for MeTooMpls compilation album!!

It feels good to share some new music with you. Last January, I was asked to be a part of a songwriting collective called MeTooMpls, coming together to raise women’s voices and help fund Planned Parenthood.

I’m grateful that MPR’s THE CURRENT is featuring my contribution to the record “I Know That Sound” as the SONG/DOWNLOAD OF THE DAY today!! Click HERE to hear the song and download. I will be posting on the socials, and if you feel inclined to share and celebrate with me, I would love that! If you’re feeling extra, you can use this link to request “I Know That Sound”. This is a first for me, and it feels a little extra healing.

There are 16 incredible artists that I admire involved, and several producers, engineers, PR and behind the scenes people who all donated their time. I can’t wait for you to hear ALL of these songs. They are heartbreaking, and empowering, and badass, and gorgeous. I’m so grateful to my incredibly talented friend Matt Patrick at the Library Recording Studio for producing and donating his time, and to my other incredibly talented friend Steve Bosmans for playing on “I Know That Sound”. Just last weekend, we (safely) pre-recorded this song and one other for the Virtual release party on 9.24.20. It will be live streamed from the Hook & Ladder Theatre, and I think it’s going to be pretty magical. You can join us virtually by grabbing a ticket here. It includes a digital download, and all the proceeds go to support the cause. There are also a few other ways to support, and I’ll include links below.

Huge, Ginormous, LOVE to you. Thank you for being here to share these things with. I’m grateful for you.  xo, Annie

I Won’t Walk Away: The Rieder Homestead Sessions

Last year I got to become a part of the beautiful family that is The Rieder Homestead. A few months later, we hung out in their magical attic & played some songs. I have so much gratitude for this community. Thank you to Steve Bosmans for being so much fun to play music with, to Brad Bivens for his sound expertise, and all the love to David Dennison for using his big heart and beautiful talent as a videographer and producer to put these sessions and connective concerts together. I hope you’ll watch, and subscribe to “The Homestead Sessions” while you’re at it! Always sending love! ❤️

“Spellbound” Music Video Release!

“Annie Fitzgerald’s version of magic is baroque and seductive, communicated in a breathy whisper, emerging like a natural element.” – Jerard Fagerberg, City Pages

Last summer, on a hot August evening and with a very full heart, I gathered with a group of incredible creative cohorts & friends. We set up in the woods and drew on the elements to bring SPELLBOUND to live visually, and I still feel like the luckiest. In typical Annie fashion, I had some happy tears at the end of the shoot. I was blown away by magic that happens when people come together to create. I feel that way when I make a record, or when I used to work in theatre and wow, what a gift it all is. So many friends who helped with this project were rooted in my theatre days, and it makes this video extra special to me.

I am SO grateful to everyone who helped create this with me & to the musicians who brought the song to life on ‘You & Me & the Sun’. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch this ART what we made!

Annie Fitzgerald Performs in the Radio Heartland Studio

Photo by Mike Pengra | MPR

Last week, the band and I had the opportunity to visit Mike Pengra at Minnesota Public Radio for an in-studio session on Radio Heartland. The session and interview can be streamed by clicking the button below!

Virtual in-studio Session for WBKM, Burlington, VT!

Big thanks to WBKM in Burlington, VT, for having us play a Virtual in-studio Session, and for their support of “You & Me & the Sun”! This acoustic version of “Listen Carefully” was filmed by Matt Perkins of Perkins Media, at Summer Winter Studios in St. Paul.

“Feels Like Summer” Music Video!

It’s here! Jerard Fagerberg of City Pages named it a Top 5 MN music video in Local Frames and said ““Feels Like Summer” plays like a ritual designed to tease more sunlight out of August. Singing breathlessly between lens flares, Fitzgerald creates an enduring vision of summer. Bookmark it in your browser for January and it just may stave off your Seasonal Affective Disorder. “Feels Like Summer” is from the equally estival LP You & Me & the Sun, which dropped on June 1.”

Northern Spirit Radio Interview

I had such a lovely time talking with Mark Helpsmeet on his beautiful program Song of the Soul on Northern Spirit Radio! (Thank you for having me, Mark!) We touch on a lot in this almost 1 hr program – and there are 4 new songs off of the new album you can hear before the release! xo
