Cellar Door
Oh weak and heavy laden
Come in out of the night
It doesn’t matter where you’ve been
My lamp for you burns bright
One bit of instruction
One room you should ignore
In the lower hollows of my home
Beneath the darkened door
What if I cast a light
On the shadows that I’ve failed to explore
What if I just decide
I’m gonna see what’s behind that cellar door
Boxes worn and tattered
Filled with life’s un-mended ends
I didn’t think they mattered
Till history showed its face again
What if I cast a light
On the shadows that I’ve failed to explore
What if I just decide,
I’m gonna see what’s behind that cellar door
It opens like a mouth
As if trying to shout,
“You can’t really live, till you let everything that’s in me, out.”
What if I cast a light
On the shadows that I’ve failed to explore
What if I just decide
I’m gonna see what’s behind that cellar
Gotta look behind that cellar
I’m gonna look behind that cellar door
